Secondary school education
General information
At the Sächsisches Landesgymnasium für Musik, about 150 students receive a sound secondary school education in harmony with the professional musical education. A special quality is the stretching of the school time within the Sekundarstufe I (classes with students aged 10 to 16) by one year. This way, necessary space for the musical education is created, and the general Saxon A-level exam is obtained after 13 school years.
The timetable even leaves slots for musical learning in the morning: individual practice periods and musical lessons are integrated.
In the course of the school year, the school education shows consideration for musical project phases and reacts flexibly to students’ individual musical (career) plans like competitions, master classes, orchestra phases etc.
In fifth and sixth form, the students enrol for three advanced courses: Music, German or Maths, and English, History, Art or Physics. They take the A-level exam according to the standards of the Free State of Saxony and obtain the allgemeine Hochschulreife (general entrance requirement for higher education).
