The aim of the competition is to give young pianists an international platform where they can meet, present, learn from each other and compare at an international level. In addition, the competition offers many opportunities to perform – at the Dresden Music Festival, with the Dresden soloists etc. These unique experiences represent an important career milestone for the young pianists.
The focus of the competition program is on the piano works by the namesake of the competition, Carl Maria von Weber. He spent the last ten years of his life in Dresden, working as director of the prestigious Opera (1817-1826). Weber embodied one of the last universal musicians who excelled equally as a virtuoso on piano and guitar, opera director, orchestra leader, organizer, critic and essayist. As one of the most prominent virtuosos of his time, Weber wrote many very effective works for the piano. In contrast to well-known operas, they are unfairly overshadowed.
Through the compulsory pieces of Carl Maria von Weber in the competition program, the International CARL MARIA VON WEBER Competition for Young Pianists is committed to present the wide range of his piano repertoire and make it known.
