Yehudi Menuhin

Besides his work in concerts and later as a conductor (from 1982 in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) Lord Yehudi Menuhin was especially passionate about promoting young, talented artists. Yehudi Menuhin always wanted people to enjoy music. With the project “Live music now” he managed to make the music available to a broad audience.

The  members of  “Live music now” organize free concerts in facilities whose residents cannot visit concerts (old people’s homes, hospitals, homes for the handicapped, prisons).

“Some say you can live without music, without theatre, without poetry, without literature. But this is simply not true. I always say that a music school doesn’t produce criminals.”

In order to promote young professional violinists, he established the renowned “Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists” in 1983. Prizewinners included, among others, Tasmin Little, Nikolaj Znaider und Julia Fischer.
