Sir Colin Davis

At first, Sir Colin Davis studied the clarinet in London, but then became a conductor. As a principal conductor, he ran the Sadler’s Wells Opera in London (today: English National Opera), the BBC Symphony Orchestra London, and then became the musical director of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

His guest performances include concerts with almost all great orchestras of the world, amongst them the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Scala Orchestra, the Dresdner Staatskapelle und the Royal Opera Orchestra Covent Garden.

From 1991 onwards, Sir Colin Davis was honorary conductor of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and from 1994 onwards, honorary member of the Sächsische Staatsoper.

Sir Colin Davis was a regular guest at the Landesmusikgymnasium, he gave chamber music courses and conducted orchestras, the last one being Schubert’s “Unfinished” symphony in 2006 and Dvořák’s 7th Symphony in 2007.
