Minor Subject Piano

Head of department: Christine Schindler

Unterricht Nebenfach Klavier

Lessons in the minor subject piano lay the foundations not only for pianistic skills but also for many other areas of work of a musician: understanding scores, fathoming out basics of music theory, playing accompanying movements oneself etc. A sound education on the piano leading to a final qualification in the obligatory subject piano that is accepted for the Bachelor programme at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber forms the basis for this.

• Compulsory lessons for all students with an instrumental or vocal main subject (except for main subject piano)
starting from year 6: 3 years with 30 minutes each week
starting from year 7: 2 years with 45 minutes each week
• annual exam takes place in second school term
• after passing the intermediate exam, classes continue for another two years and lead to a degree relevant for musical colleges; this degree can be credited for Bachelor’s degrees in instrumental or vocal education (including instrumental and vocal pedagogy) of the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden
• earlier start (year 5) or continuation on a private basis is possible, the Landesmusikgymnasium will help finding a teacher
